JAEGER-LeCoultre Deep Sea Chronograph Vintage CERMET

By TLex The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Chronograph Vintage Cermet Ref. 208A57J Boutique Edition boasts a very special high-tech case made of reinforced cermet. Cermet is a composite material composed of (cer)amic and (met)allic materials. It has been designed to have the optimal properties of both ceramic, such as high temperature resistance and hardness, and those of a metal, such as the ability to undergo plastic deformation.

The new Deep Sea Chronograph Vintage Cermet with its three-counter chronograph movement takes its aesthetic inspiration from the the 1959 Memovox Deep Sea model. The chronograph operating indicator is inspired by the Jaeger-LeCoultre 1930s “chronoflight” onboard instrument.



Divers needs to be able to see at a glance whether the disc shows that the chronograph is ready for use (white), in operation (white/red) or stopped (red).

Jaeger-LeCoultre have cleverly combined cutting edge case technology with a heritage inspired design. There's the stark contrast of the matte ceremet case, the new home of the vintage Deep Sea dial with its tropical hands and hour-markers, not forgetting also the simple yet ingenious chrono-indicator, a beautiful sight. I'm still not sure I'm ready for a ceramic watch case, but such is the nature of the industry these days - I'm sure we'll see more, too!
