CREPAS cayman 3000

By TLex CREPAS Watches have released their third model! The small Spanish dive watch company based in Malaga have a loyal almost cult like following of dive watch devotees, who wait patiently for a single annual release. Each year their patience is rewarded with something special, this year is no different!

A continuation of the brand’s successful formula that blends vintage styling with the latest in divers watch technologies, the new CREPAS cayman 3000 is born. A watch that takes inspiration from the 1970s Ollech & Wajs Caribbean 1000, which if I am not grossly mistaken was one of if not the first 1000m water-resistant dive watches. Its name, ‘Cayman’ pays tribute to this historic watch and has been taken from the Cayman Islands of the Caribbean.

With triple the water-resistance the O’ & W’ Caribbean 1000, the cayman 3000 is now a member of an elite category of watches known as extreme divers. However it has achieved its incredible 3000m depth-rating without having to compromise any of its sleekness or elegance. Whilst it is probably the deepest dress diver there is, it is possibly the most elegant extreme diver I have seen, too!

The watch case measure 43mm x 16.90mm and is constructed from surgical 316L Stainless steel, which has a polished finish. It is fitted with a screwdown crown and domed caseback both of which are signed with the Crepas ship’s propeller logo. The caseback’s propeller has a very unique feature; it has been applied with BG W9 SuperLuminova, which allows it to glow blue in the dark! How cool is that?!

Of the many wonderful features peculiar to the cayman 3000 is: a Swiss ETAsa 2824 TOP grade automatic movement, a 120 click-type unidirectional rotational divers bezel with an inclined Sapphire crystal inlay and coin-edging, a highly domed scratch-resistant Sapphire crystal with AR coating on in its inside, an automatic helium escape valve and specially designed rice-bead link bracelet, a design that although has become synonymous with Doxa's divers was in fact used for the original Caribbean 1000 watches.

Limited to just 299 examples, the cayman 3000 is another huge triumph for CREPAS Watches and in my opinion is their greatest model to date. I am sure that it will appeal equally to vintage and extreme dive watch enthusiasts. See below for full specifications and details on pricing or follow the CREPAS propeller to be taken directly to their website . . .

BREITLING Avenger Seawolf BLACKSTEEL Code YELLOW

By TLex First produced in 2002, when it became the deepest production mechanical dive watch with a water-resistance of 3'000m setting the benchmark for other deep divers to measure themselves against, the Avenger Seawolf is still going strong.

It has seen a few cosmetic enhancements over the past 10 years, but still remains one the great dive watches of its day - the original extreme diver! For 2012 Brietling introduced a new BLACKSTEEL version of the ASW with a carbon nitride-based Blacksteel treatment. Today that watch has been further enhanced with sporty touches of YELLOW - what's not to like?!

From BREITLING A very special series - Its name says it all. Avenger for its power and its unfailing sturdiness. Seawolf for water-resistance to the fabulous depth of 3,000 meters (10,000 ft). Blacksteel for the black case achieved by a highly resistant carbon-based treatment. And Code Yellow for the extremely original touches of yellow enlivening the seconds hand, the inner bezel, and the Automatic inscription on the dial.

With this 1,000-piece limited edition, Breitling has created an exceptional instrument matching peerless performances with an unusual appearance. Born to face up to the most extreme conditions, this professional diver’s watch has what it takes to accompany top level feats in deep waters.

An ergonomic case sporting a design based on digital simulations. A unidirectional rotating bezel. A large screw-locked crown with non-slip grip, protected by substantial lateral reinforcements. An ultra-readable dial with oversized hands and large luminescent accents. A thick sapphire crystal glare-proofed on both sides. A security valve serving to balance out the differences between the case exterior and interior.

The ultra-sporty and ultra-contemporary design is enhanced by highly original stencil-type numerals - echoing Breitling aeronautical vocation – and by a rubber strap. Inside this all black super-diving model beats a mechanical self-winding movement that is officially chronometer-certified - like all Breitling movements. Avenger Seawolf Blacksteel Code Yellow: power in action.

MOLARITY Watch Group DEEP DIVER

By TLex INTRODUCING Molarity Watch Group, or MWG and the Deep DIVER. MWG was just recently founded by Canadian watch connoisseur, Dave Simmons, the same gentleman that founded the also newly established ZURINER brand.

The Deep Diver is MWG's first serious divers model. There is another divers style model in MWG's collection, the MZ 79, which has a water-resistance of 100m. However that model, leans more towards the brand's fashion side whereas the Deep Diver has been designed by MWG to be a robust diver with a solid tank-like build.

Its case measures 48mm in diameter x 18mm thick and has been constructed from sandblasted finished 316L Stainless steel. It is also available with a black IP finish. The watch case has 200 ATM (2000 Meters) of water-resistance, hence its name, Deep Diver.

Features include: a uni-directional rotational divers bezel with elapsed dive-time scale and light green luminous 12hr pip, Averger Seawolf-style screwdown crowns, chrono pushers and manual HEV, a domed solid steel scredown caseback and a flat Sapphire coated mineral crystal.

The Deep Diver's matte black dial is with light green luminous indexes and red hands also with light green luminous material. The sub dials are in gray.

The Deep Diver is powered by a Japanese made Miyota OS20 Movement with 1/1-second chronograph, hours, minutes, sub-seconds and date. Its stopwatch function has 2 Stopwatch hands: 1/1-second plus a minute hand, which can measure up to 59’59”80.

Finally each watch is presented on a 22mm black silicon rubber divers strap with a U-Boat style solid 316L Stainless steel end-piece (cool) and a brushed steel buckle. The watches are currently discounted from: 655 524USD (IP) and 635 508USD (steel). They come with a 2 years limited international warranty.

MWG have a number of distributors dotted around the globe. They can be found in Canada, Hong Kong, Kuwait, South Korea, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom if you want to handle them in person. However all watches can be bought online direct from MWG website.

VintageVDB T-Edition TANTAL

By TLex Another beauty from the German ateliers of VintageVDB. The new T-Edition Tantal as its name suggests has been constructed from Tantalum (Ta), a hard heavy gray alloy that is prized for its ductility, strength, and corrosion resistance.

It's not an obvious choice for a watch let alone a vintage diver - mainly because of its great expense, but it's a great one if you're looking something a little exotic and out of the ordinary. The pearl-blasted finish suits it well.

Of the features of the watch are: vintage domed crystal with hand etched VDB logo. If you look carefully you can see that it casts a rather cool shadow onto the hand painted dial. The dial features a sub-seconds counter at 6 'clock.

The case has also been fitted with rotational bezel and a large VDB signed crown. The exhibition caseback has also been etched it affords a view of the vintage Rolex caliber with black coated rotor that powers the watch.

Finally the watch is presented on a handmade VintageVDB 'Cufflink' leather strap with signed VDB fastening. What a cool watch!
