PROMETHEUS Sailfish

By TLex Watch photography has to one the most difficult types of photography there is. Many of us watch geeks have been working years at perfecting our technique and for the most to no avail.

Here are some the finest photos I have seen in a long time. They were taken by Beau Hudspeth and put most byof our efforts to shame. Truly magnificent.

The subject, the Sailfish was made in tribute to the said fish, the fastest living sea creature with recorded speeds of up to 110 Km/h / 68mph. It draws on influences dating back as far as 70 years.

Its handset derives from one the earliest dive watches, made by Longines for the British Royal Navy in 1943.

The case, which is constructed from 316L Stainless steel measures 43mm x 52mm with a 22mm lug width. It is water-resistance to 300 meters.

Its bezel unmistakably, a Fifty Fathoms type with a beautiful cambered Sapphire inlay and lumed dive-time scale.

The Sailfish is powered by a Seiko Time Module NH36 automatic movement (OEM version of 4R36).

Its case back depicts the majestic Sailfish from which it takes its name. It is available HERE in four colors: black, blue, grey and yellow from the Prometheus online store!

CLERC Hydroscaph H1 CHRONOMETER

By TLex If you hadn't already noticed the Hydroscaph H1 banner flying proudly at the top of the page, here's a 2nd look at the watch, which is available in a number distinctive interpretations.

As formidable a diving instrument as its siblings, every bit as powerful and technical, the Hydroscaph H1 from CLERC is the latest addition to the popular Hydroscaph family.

However being a three hands model it allows for a simpler dial configuration than those with Chrono or GMT complications, meaning that the H1 should give divers the ability to more easily read dive-time at a glance.

The Hysdroscaph H1 is based on the same type of chassis as other models in the Hydroscaph collection. Constructed from high-grade Stainless steel and with over 81 individual case parts. Its dimensions are 43.80 mm in diameter or 48mm if we are to include its lateral reinforcements.

Special features include: CLERC’s exclusive caseband with lateral reinforcements and an octagonal crown-activated rotating bezel, a signature feature of the Hydroscaph family, as well as CLERC's proprietary adaptable lug mechanism.

Because diver safety is so crucial, the 2 o’clock crown is used to operate the bezel, but only after prior deployment of its built-in retractable flap.

The H1 case is fitted with 4mm thick anti-reflective treated Sapphire crystal and an exhibition caseback. It has a water-resistance of 500 meters / 50ATM.

Its matte dial is with individually machined 3D SuperLuminova applied applique markers. They have been angled in such a way that they give the illusion that the dial is half submerged in water.

The Hydroscaph's characteristic tuning-fork style handset can be had in a number contrasting colors such as; red, blue or fluorescent yellow and green.

The minute hand has been been distinctively colored so that it is easily distinguishable from the hour hand; another diver safety feature. The scrolling date window at 3 o’clock has a matching indicator with the minute hand.

The H1 is powered by CLERC's exclusive C609 C.O.S.C Certified Chronometer self-winding movement with 21 jewels beating at 28’800 vib/h. It bridges are adorned with a Côtes de Genève motif and blue screws.

It has 42-hours of power reserve. Functions include: hours, minutes, sweep second and date. The watch is presented on either a vulcanized rubber divers strap or a Louisiana alligator strap with a folding clasp.

JEANRICHARD Aquascope KIND SURF 2ndLOOK

By TLex Here's a 2nd look at a beautiful new limited edition of the AQUASCOPE model, made in the honor of Kind Surf, making JR the NGO's first official watch partner.

The presentation, celebrated on November 6th in Madrid, was attended by to Almudena Fernandez, who was presented with a watch. She had recently traveled to Switzerland to collaborate with JR on its design; hence the feminine touches.

The Aquascope Kind Surf will be available in a limited edition of 88. Not only an auspicious number, but 8 also represents the wave (I didn't know that).

Features of the watch include: a unidirectional rotating bezel in the same grey-blue as the logo of the NGO, engraved on the white face with delicate wave motifs.

An automatic high-performance mechanical movement and a white rubber strap complement perfectly a Stainless steel cushion case that is water-resistant to 300 meters. The case back bears the inscription 'NGO Kind Surf by ALMUDENA FERNANDEZ' together with its serial number.

AQUADIVE Bathysphere 300 MODEL 51 [high-end caliber + depth of design]

By TLex Marking the 40th anniversary of the release of the original Aquadive Model 50, The new Aquadive Bathysphere 300 Model 51 is first watch in Aquadive's 'Classic Reissue Haute Horology' line. It is a high-end modern update of the classic Time-Depth Model 50 that has been produced with the exact same case as the original model only this time around it is powered by a highly refined Manufacture movement.

The Model 51 boasts a 13.25 line Swiss Manufacture movement with 5 day power reserve and twin barrel construction with 35 jewels beating at 28800 Bph. Aquadive haven't said who produced the movement for them, but I'm sure the movement geeks among you shouldn't have too much difficulty recognizing some of its more obvious characteristics. It can be found in many watches that retail for well over 6000USD.

"This limited production Model was developed for collectors, purists and aficionados who love the style of the original iconic 1973 watch and desire a showpiece movement to accompany their investment, "says Martin Beck, CEO of Aquadive watches.

With a design and function that was so advanced of its time (1973) the Model 50 was patented under US Patent No.3377860. Designed to be a professional dive watch from its crystal to its caseback, it incorporated the industry's first mechanical depth gauge requiring a 47mm case to accommodate the oil-filled depth gauge mechanism along with its electronic movement.

The watch was even approved and endorsed aquanaut / astronaut, Scott Carpenter, who featured in early advertising programs. The Model 50 fast became a favorite amongst the diving elite at a time when modern advanced dive computers were still decades away!

The Model 51 utilizes the same case as the original. It is machined and forged in Germany out of a 60mm solid steel disc cut from a 316L surgical grade 3 meter rod. Each Case is then polished and brushed by hand in Germany. The remaining components including the dial, hands and crystal are all made in Switzerland. With great attention to detail, parts like the retaining ring, the bezel ratchet mechanism have all been CNC machined from solid Stainless steel or bronze.

"Aquadive has a long and important reputation in the international diving community, significant for the development of many historic models. The Model 51 is the first in our series of classic updates with the goal of providing discriminating consumers with a true heritage Swiss watch that exceeds its original reputation" adds Beck.

The original Model 50 is highly regarded collector's item. Some models like the ones produced for the US Navy SEALs command nearly 2000USD on the collector’s market. The new Aquadive Classic Reissue line will make watches like it available, with highly updated and desirable movements typically found in prestigious high-end watch brands.

The Model 51 is a fantastic high-end debut model. Whilst it is unquestionably a sophisticated luxury timepieces it is still a consummate diving tool; sporty and functional. I particularly like the proud red '5 days' logo on the dial. The combination of classic styling with modern mechanical movements once again has Aquadive creating the collectibles of the future. Can't wait to see more!
