By TLex Not quite an official release, but as part of the yesterday's premiere of the 'Planet Ocean' documentary FILM, directed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Michael Pitiot in partnership with OMEGA and in collaboration with the Good Planet FOUNDATION, Omega have covertly unveiled the new PLANET OCEAN GMT AKA the GoodPlanet GMT. And what a looker it is!
Its Stainless steel watch case has diameter of 43.5mm. It has a water-resistance of 600m or 2000feet and is fitted with a domed scratch-resistant Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides and unidirectional rotational bezel with a 24hr time scale in orange.
Further features include: a helium escape valve (10 o'clock), a screw-down crown, a Sapphire crystal exhibition caseback, which affords a view of the chronometer certified Omega Caliber 8605 self-winding movement with GMT time zone function that powers the new PO GMT.
Features of the in-house caliber include: a Co-Axial escapement for greater precision, stability and durability, a silicon (Si 14) balance-spring on free sprung-balance, 2 barrels mounted in series and automatic winding in both directions to reduce winding time.
The rhodium-plated balance bridge and oscillating mass (rotor), have a luxury finish with exclusive Geneva waves in arabesque. It's power reserve is 60 hours.
The orange of the GMT hand, the 'GMT' text on the dial and bezel markings really pop, making a lovely contrast against the deep blue dial. A great success!
